Day 8 - Ice cold beer

the morning started quiet and rainy and after the students finished their lectures, the sun appeared and the whole group rushed towards the end of the building weeks.

While our Dr. Bucky Lab prepped the bbq the last bits and pieces came together from the projects.
At 16.00 we stopped working and started our bbq with an ice cold beer and a german Bratwurst, yes german. Thanks to our special delivery service from Dennis de Witte and Prof. Ulrich Knaack, we got
a fresh delivery of original Grillbratwuerstchen Thueringer Art …the best money can by….
With a charcoal fire burring like hell the sausages got a healthy colour in minutes and the crowd was enjoying the lovely snack.

Our BBQ is also the time to meet our sponsors and partners of the bucky lab, its our way of getting together, talking tools and have a chat about this and that. So next to Frans from Festool, Jaap from woodworking.nl who already joined the introduction day also Bart de Groot the inventor of our lovely Walko workbenches, Mark Bomer from Hettich who once build the toolboxes with us and equipped the whole set with the worlds best set of drawers joined the sunny event and had a chat with Frank from breur our hardware store.

At the end also a few colleagues joined including Uli Knaack and Stefan Behnisch who is guest professor for this semester in our house. what an event.

We would like to thank our partners and sponsors for their contribution, without them this building weeks would have been impossible ! We carry their names on our boxes with pride !

Day 7 - Sunburned and a little bit of Hollywood

With a bright and sunny day, everyone get a bit sunburned working all day outside today. The cardboard group made a huge step forward to set up the floor system of the pavilion.

Today was actually the last full day and we sensed this all day long. After lunch we were visited by a group of students from the university of applied science The Hague who are also building facade prototypes parallel in Delft. We also had a film crew from the TU Delta TV team on our site to take some shots with action from the work floor and interviewed a student group about their project.

Lets cross fingers that we are able to finish as much as possible tomorrow till we set the bbq on fire and have a well earned beer.

Day 6 - We are getting there

After a long weekend we started our second building week. It was quite busy in the tent and even more outside.

While some tested our newest impregnating liquids, thanks to our sponsor Gummil others went crazy to
peel free thousands of holes from a laser cutted sheet …the girders of the cardboard shelter came together and the panels are waiting for their test assembling tomorrow. If the weather stays like that
we are on schedule…

We had to stop for a fire alarm, but fortunately nothing happened in our faculty…nor in our tent.

While Dr. Bucky lab had to join exams the whole day Coen and Jerzy took care of the students.  Looking at the pictures from the day its amazing how things developed. Next to a fresh delivery of cardboard profiles from Poland which will allow us to start with the erection of the structure of the cardboard shelter some of the sunshade projects already looks like their are nearly finished.

Now its time for a long refreshing weekend

Day 4 - summer

We started very slowly today, actually spooky ….only a couple of students arrived in the morning due to lectures, but when the sun arrived so did the students.

While the guys started an ugly coffee mug contest, the girls actually enjoyed their coffee with more style …

and the projects ? Have a look by yourself…we saw blue hair growing, cardboard impregnated, candy in tool shape and resin printed light concentrators ….

Day 3 - getting used to it

Day 3 in the books and we can already see some projects becoming alive. While the first day was all about intro, the second day about getting started, the 3rd day becomes more and more natural for the students. The projects evolved more and more, tasks are clear and setting up and cleaning becomes more and more efficient. In principle just another day at work…

Its amazing to see how fast the students learn, its their passion and dedication to materialise their concepts. And of course the sunny weather helps also to push through the day.

Have a look
